Question

The perimeter of two squares are 48 cm and 60 cm. Find the perimeter of a third square whose area is equal to the difference of the area of the square.

A.

32 cm

B.

44 cm

C.

36 cm

D.

40 cm

Correct option is C

Given:

The perimeters of two squares are 48 cm and 60 cm.

Formula used:

Perimeter of a square = 4 × side

Area of a square = side2

Solution:

First square:

Perimeter = 48 cm

=> 4 × side1= 48

=> side1= 48 / 4 = 12 cm

Area1= 122= 144 cm2

Second square:

Perimeter = 60 cm

=> 4 × side2= 60

=> side2= 60 / 4 = 15 cm

Area2= 152= 225 cm2

Third square:

Area3= Area2- Area1= 225 - 144 = 81 cm2

Side3= √81 = 9 cm

Perimeter3= 4 × side3= 4 × 9 = 36 cm

∴ The correct answer is (c).
