Question

The perimeter of a square is 120 cm. The length of a rectangle is two times the side of the square. The perimeter of the rectangle is 156 cm. What is the difference between the areas of the rectangle and the square ?

A.

B.

C.

D.

Correct option is D

Perimeter of square= 4a = 120 cm .
a = 30cm.
Area of square= 30× 30 = 900cm².
The length of the rectangle is two times of the length of the square = 60cm.
Perimeter of rectangle= 2(l+b) = 2(60+b) = 156cm.
60+ b = 156/2
b = 78-60 = 18cm.
Area of rectangle = 60 × 18 = 1080 cm².
The difference between the area of rectangle and square= 1080- 900 = 180 cm².
