Question

The multiplication of two consecutive odd numbers is 6723. Then the square root of the smaller number is

A.

7

B.

729

C.

91

D.

9

Correct option is D

Given:
Product of two consecutive odd numbers = 6723
Solution:
Let the smaller odd number be x.
Then the next consecutive odd number = x + 2
According to the question,
x(x + 2) = 6723
x² + 2x − 6723 = 0
Using the quadratic formula:
x = [−2 ± √(4 + 4×6723)] / 2
= [−2 ± √(26996)] / 2
≈ [−2 ± 164.4] / 2
Positive value → x = (162.4) / 2 = 81.2 ≈ 81
So smaller number = 81, next odd = 83
Square root of smaller number = √81 = 9
Correct answer is (d) 9
