Question

The 7th term from the end of the sequence -8, -5, -2, ......... , 88 is :

A.

67

B.

70

C.

73

D.

72

Correct option is B

Given:

Sequence: −8,−5,−2,…,88

Formula Used:

If first term a, common difference d, last term l, then nthn^{th} term

nthn^{th} term from end = l − (n − 1) d

Solution:

First term a = −8

Common difference d = -5 - (-8) = 3

Last term l = 88

n = 7

Substituting in formula:

7th\text{7}^{th} term from end = 88(71)×3=886×3=8818=7088 - (7-1) \times 3 = 88 - 6 \times 3 = 88 - 18 = 70
