Question

On simplification 1 – 2 + 3 – 4 + 5 – 6 - - - - + 101, we get

A.

101

B.

81

C.

60

D.

51

Correct option is D

Given:

Simplify the series:

1 - 2 + 3 - 4 + 5 - 6 + ..... + 101

Solution:

Pair the terms up to 100:

(1 - 2) + (3 - 4) + ......... + (99 - 100)

Number of such pairs = 50

Sum of these pairs = 50 × (-1) = -50

Remaining last term = +101

Total sum =  -50 + 101 = 51

Thus, Value of the given expression = 51
