    Question

    Shaurya has to reach Indore which is 652 km away in 18 hours. His starting speed for 3 hours was 73 km/hr. For the next 134 km his speed was 67km/hr. By what speed he must travel now so as to reach Indore in decided time of 18hours?

    A.

    23 km/hr

    B.

    26 km/hr

    C.

    18 km/hr

    D.

    20 km/hr

    Correct option is A

    Given:

    Total distance to Indore = 652 km

    Total time to reach Indore = 18 hours

    First speed for 3 hours = 73 km/hr

    Distance covered in the next segment = 134 km

    Speed for the next segment = 67 km/hr

    Formula Used:

    Time =Distance  Speed \frac{\text{Distance }}{\text{ Speed}}

    Solution:

    Distance covered in first 3 hours=73 × 3 = 219 km

    So, 219 km is covered in the first 3 hours.

    Time spent on the next 134 km:

    Time for next 134 km=13467 \frac{134}{67}  = 2 hours

    So, 134 km is covered in 2 hours.

    Remaining distance = 652 - 219 - 134 = 299 km

    Remaining time = 18 - 3 - 2 = 13 hours

    Required speed=29913=23 km/hr\text{Required speed} = \frac{299}{13}= 23 \, \text{km/hr}

    Thus, Shaurya must travel at a speed of 23 km/hr to reach Indore on time.
