Question

Present age of S is 4/5th of that of A age, while age of A after 5 years will be equal to twice the present age of P. If the sum of ages of all three is 37 years, then find the present age (in years) of S?

A.

15

B.

10

C.

12

D.

17

E.

20

Correct option is C

Let ages of S, A, P be s, a, p years respectively.
a + 5 = 2p
s/a=4/5
s + a + p = 37
ATQ, let s = 4x, a = 5x and p = (5x+5)/2
4x + 5x + (5x+5)/2 = 37
x = 3
present age of S = 4x = 4 × 3 = 12 years
