Question

Mr.Jacob invested Rs. 17,500 dividing into two different schemes A and B at simple interest rate of 20% and 7.5% respectively. If the total amount of the simple interest earned in 2 years is Rs.3775, what was the amount invested in scheme A? (In Rs.)

A.

4600

B.

5600

C.

6600

D.

3600

Correct option is A

Let amount invested in A = x
Amount in B
= 17500 − x

Interest rate
A = 20%
B = 7.5%

Time = 2 years
Interest from A
= x × 20 × 2 / 100
= 0.4x

Interest from B
= (17500 − x) × 7.5 × 2 / 100
= 0.15(17500 − x)

Total interest
0.4x + 0.15(17500 − x) = 3775
0.4x + 2625 − 0.15x = 3775
0.25x = 1150
x = 4600
