    Question

    Let a set S = {1, 2, 2, 3, 3,3, 4, 4,4, 4}. Then the value of 4 × mean + 2 × mode - 8 × median is:

    A.

    10

    B.

    4

    C.

    -4

    D.

    14

    Correct option is C

    Given:
    Set S = {1, 2, 2, 3, 3,3, 4, 4, 4, 4}

    Formula Used:
    Mean =Sum of valuesn \frac{Sum \ of \ values}{n}  ,

    Mode = Most frequent term

    For even terms, n:

    Median = Value at position n2+Value at position (n2+1)2\frac{\text{Value at position } \frac{n}{2} + \text{Value at position } (\frac{n}{2} + 1)}{2}

    Solution:
    Mean =1+2+2+3+3+3+4+4+4+410=3010=3 \frac{1+2+2+3+3+3+4+4+4+4}{10} = \frac{30}{10} = 3
    Mode = 4 (most frequent),

    Median = 3+32=3\frac{3 + 3}{2} = 3
    Value = 4×3+2×48×3=12+824=44 \times 3 + 2 \times 4 - 8 \times 3 = 12 + 8 - 24 = \bf -4
