    Question

    Kamlesh buys some sarees and suits for ₹10,000. The cost of each saree is ₹1,500, and the cost of each suit is ₹1,000. The total number of sarees and suits is 8. Find the number of suits and sarees.

    A.

    4 sarees and 4 suits

    B.

    3 sarees and 5 suits

    C.

    2 sarees and 6 suits

    D.

    5 sarees and 3 suits

    Correct option is A

    Given:

    Total items = 8 (sarees + suits)

    Total cost = ₹10,000

    Cost per saree = ₹1,500

    Cost per suit = ₹1,000

    Solution:

    Let number of sarees = s, suits = t.
    s + t = 8
    1500s + 1000t = 10000

    Solve simultaneous linear equations.

    From s + t = 8

    t = 8 - s.
    Substitute:
    1500s + 1000(8 - s) = 10000
    1500s + 8000 - 1000s = 10000
    500s = 2000
    s = 4,  t = 8 - 4 = 4.
    Sarees = 4, Suits = 4
