Question

In what ratio should sugar costing ₹48 per kg be mixed with sugar costing ₹22 per kg so that by selling the mixture at ₹40.6 per kg, there is a profit of 16%?

A.

15 : 11

B.

13 : 13

C.

14 : 15

D.

15 : 14

Correct option is B

Given:

Cost of sugar 1 = ₹ 48

Cost of sugar 2 = ₹ 22

Selling price of mixture = ₹ 40.6 per kg

Profit = 16%

Formula used:

Selling Price = Cost Price ×(1+Profit100) \left(1 + \frac{\text{Profit}}{100}\right)

Ratio = (Cost Price of first type of sugar - Cost Price of mixture) : (Cost Price of mixture - Cost Price of second type of sugar)

Solution:

₹40.6 = Cost Price ×(1+16100) \left(1 + \frac{\text{16}}{100}\right)

₹40.6 = Cost Price × 1.16
Cost Price = 40.61.16\frac{40.6}{1.16}= ₹35

Ratio = (₹48 - ₹35) : (₹35 - ₹22)
Ratio = ₹13 : ₹13
