Question

Two vessels, containing 23 liters and 35 liters quantity of solution, have milk and water in the ratio of 11:12 and 22:13 respectively. If the solutions are mixed with each other, then how many liters of water has to be added in the final solution to make the resulting solution in the ratio 1:1? (In litres)

A.

12

B.

10

C.

8

D.

6

Correct option is C

Vessel 1:
Total solution = 23 L
Milk : Water = 11 : 12

Milk = 23 × (11/23) = 11 L
Water = 23 × (12/23) = 12 L

Vessel 2:
Total solution = 35 L
Milk : Water = 22 : 13

Milk = 35 × (22/35) = 22 L
Water = 35 × (13/35) = 13 L

After mixing:
Total Milk = 11 + 22 = 33 L
Total Water = 12 + 13 = 25 L

Let x liters of water be added.
New ratio:
Milk : Water = 1 : 1
33 : (25 + x) = 1 : 1
25 + x = 33
x = 8 L
