    Question

    In a 2 km linear race, if P completes the race in 200 second and Q in 220 seconds, then the distance by which P beats Q is:

    A.

    167611 \frac{6}{11} metres

    B.

    173711 \frac7{11} metres

    C.

    191711 \frac7{11} metres

    D.

    181911\frac 9{11} metres

    Correct option is D

    Given:
    Total time taken by P to complete race = 200 seconds
    Total time taken by Q to complete race = 220 seconds
    Distance=2 km
    Formula Used:
    Speed = DistanceTime\frac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Time}}

    Solution:
    Speed of Q = 2000220=10011 m/sec\frac{2000}{220} = \frac{100}{11} \, \text{m/sec}
    When P finishes race Q is left 20 seconds behind,
    Then distance left will be distance travelled by Q in 20 seconds
    Distance = 10011 m/sec×20=200011 m=181 911 m\frac{100}{11} \, \text{m/sec} \times 20 = \frac{2000}{11} \, \text{m} = 181 \, \frac{9}{11} \, \text{m}
