Question

In a 2295 m circular race, Siddharth finishes one round in 85 seconds and Yash finishes one round in 45 seconds. How many different meeting points are there on the circumference if they are running in the opposite directions?

A.

36

B.

20

C.

26

D.

33

Correct option is C

Given:

Track length = 2295 m

Siddharth’s time per round = 85 s

Yash’s time per round = 45 s

Opposite directions; find distinct meeting points on circumference.

Formula Used:

Speed =DistanceTime=\dfrac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Time}}

Number of distinct meeting points (opposite directions)
= Sum of the reduced ratio terms of their speeds

Solution:

Siddharth’s speed = 229585\dfrac{2295}{85}=27

Yash’s speed =229545=51 \dfrac{2295}{45}=51

Speed ratio = 27 : 51 = 9 : 17

Number of meeting points = 9 + 17 = 26

26 different meeting points.
