Question

In a circular race of 500 m, A and B start from the same point and at the same time at speeds of 36 km/hr and 45 km/hr in the same direction. After how long will they meet again for the first time on the track?

A.

320 sec

B.

240 sec

C.

200 sec

D.

250 sec

Correct option is C

Given:
Length of circular track = 500 m
Speed of A = 36 km/hr = 36 × 518\frac{5}{18} m/s = 10 m/s

Speed of B = 45 km/hr = 45 × 518\frac{5}{18} m/s = 12.5 m/s
Formula Used:
Relative speed = |Speed of B - Speed of A|
Time for first meeting = Length of track ÷ Relative speed
Solution:
Relative speed = |12.5 - 10| m/s = 2.5 m/s
Time for first meeting = 5002.5\frac{500}{2.5} = 200 seconds
