Question

If X's income is 40% less than that of Y, then Y's income is approximately what percentage more than that of X?

A.

67.33%

B.

66.33%

C.

67.67%

D.

66.67%

Correct option is D

Given:

If X's income is 40% less than that of Y,

Y's income is approximately what percentage more than that of X?

Solution:

Let Y's income = 100x

Then, X's income = 100x - 100×40100\frac{100 \times 40}{100}

X's income = 100x - 40x

X's income = 60x

By ratio method,

X's income : Y's income

60x : 100x

3 : 5

Now, Y is 2 more than X

Hence,

23×100\frac{2}{3} \times 100

= 66.66% aprrox 66.67%

Y's income is approximately 66.67% more than that of X.

Thus, option (d) is correct.
