Question

If the distance between two points (xx,7) and (1,15) is 10 units, then the possible values of xx = ?

A.

7, -5

B.

5, -7

C.

4, 5

D.

3, 7

Correct option is A

Given:

Distance between two points (xx,7) and (1,15) is 10 units

Formula Used:

AB=(x2x1)2+(y2y1)2\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

Solution:

10= (1x)2+(157)2\sqrt{(1-x)^2+(15-7)^2}

We do both side squire

102= (1-x)2 + (8)2

100 = 1+x2-2x+64

x2- 2x - 35 = 0,

x2-7x+5x-35 = 0

x(x-7) +5(x-7) = 0

(x-7)(x+5) = 0

x=7, x=-5

Option (a)
