In the second quadrant, sinx\sin x​ is positive, and cosx\cos x​ is negative.
The trigonometric identity: tanx=sinxcosx\tan x = \frac{\sin x}{\cos x}​​
and sin2x+cos2x=1\sin^2 x + \cos^2 x = 1​​
tanx=sinxcosx\tan x = \frac{\sin x}{\cos x}​​
sinx=oppositehypotenuse,cosx=adjacenthypotenuse\sin x = \frac{\text{opposite}}{\text{hypotenuse}}, \quad \cos x = \frac{\text{adjacent}}{\text{hypotenuse}}​​
Solution:  
\because In the second quadrant, sinx\sin x​​is positive, and cosx\cos x​is negative. 
So, 
sinxcotx=1213(512) =144(65)156 =209156\sin x - \cot x = \frac{12}{13} -\left(-\frac{5}{12}\right) \\ \ \\=\frac{144 -(-65)}{156} \\ \ \\=\bf \frac{209}{156}
