    Question

    Hari, Kamal and Lalit contested an election in which 6050 votes were polled and none of the votes were invalid. Kamal got 42% more votes than the total votes obtained by Hari and Lalit together. If Lalit obtained only 8% of the total polled votes, find the number of votes obtained by Hari.

    A.

    1912

    B.

    1668

    C.

    1556

    D.

    2016

    Correct option is D

    Given:

    Total number of votes polled = 6050

    Kamal got 42% more votes than the total votes obtained by Hari and Lalit together

    Lalit votes = 8% of the total polled votes

    Concept and Formula Used:

    Percentage Concept;

    Percentage of vote one candidate received =vote received by one candidateTotal votes polled×100\frac{\text{vote received by one candidate}}{\text{Total votes polled}} \times 100

    Solution:

    As per the question;

    Let total votes obtained by Hari and Lalit together = 100x

    Kamal got vote = 142x

    ATQ,

    242x – 6050

    x -- 25

    so, total vote obtained by Hari and Lalit together = 2500

    Lalit obtained 8% of the total vote = 242x × 8% = 242× 25 × 8/100 = 484

    Votes obtained by Hari = 2500 – 484 = 2016
