Question

Given that ∆ABC ~ ∆DEF, if BC = 12.5 cm and EF = 10 cm, then the areas of ∆ABC and ∆DEF are in the ratio of:

A.

3 : 4

B.

16 : 25

C.

25 : 16

D.

1 : 2

Correct option is C

Given:

ΔABC∼ΔDEF

BC = 12.5 cm

EF = 10 cm

Formula Used:

Ratio of areas = (Corresponding sidesCorresponding sides)2\left(\frac{\text{Corresponding sides}}{\text{Corresponding sides}}\right)^2

Solution:

The ratio of the corresponding sides BC and EF is

(BCEF)2\left(\frac{BC}{EF}\right)^2

= (12.510)2\left(\frac{12.5}{10}\right)^2

= (125100)2\left(\frac{125}{100}\right)^2

= (54)2\left(\frac{5}{4}\right)^2

= 2516\frac{25}{16}

25 : 16
