Question

For the circuit shown below, match List-I and List-II when S is switched off.

List-I
A. Current i
B. Current i₁
C. Net resistance R in the circuit
List-II
p. will increase
q. will decrease
r. will remain the same
A B C

A.

q p r

B.

q r p

C.

p r q

D.

r p q

Correct option is A

Correct answer is A
Explanation:
When switch S is turned off:
Current i1 will decrease since the circuit configuration changes, reducing the load on the branch with i1.
Current i2  will decrease as the current redistributes to alternate paths due to S being off.
The net resistance of the circuit will decrease as follow:
Initially ,
Rnet = R+ R = 2R
After switched off
Rnet = R +  (R× R)/(R+R) = 3/2 R
Matching List-I and List-II:
A) Current i1 => p) will increase
B) Current i2 =>  q) will decrease
C) Net resistance in the circuit => q) will decrease
