Question

A total of 7,50,000 voters participated in an election. A candidate received 3,82,500 votes which was 60% of the total valid votes. What was the percentage of invalid votes in the election?

A.

15%

B.

20%

C.

12%

D.

18%

Correct option is A

Given:
Total participation = 750000
A candidate received 3,82,500 votes which was 60% of the total valid votes.
Solution:
60% of the total valid votes → 382500
100% valid votes = 382500 × 53\frac 53 = 637500
Invalid votes = Total voter - Valid votes
Invalid votes = 750000 - 637500 = 112500
The percent of invalid votes = 112500750000\frac {112500}{750000} × 100 = 15%
