Question

A rectangular courtyard is 18 m 72 cm long and 13 m 20 cm broad. It is to be paved with square tiles all of the same size. Find the least possible number of such tiles required.

A.

4290

B.

4295

C.

4292

D.

4294

Correct option is A

Given:
Length of the rectangular courtyard = 18 m 72 cm = 1872 cm
Breadth of the rectangular courtyard = 13 m 20 cm = 1320 cm
Formula Used:
To find the least number of square tiles, we use the formula:
Number of tiles=Area of rectangleArea of square tile of maximum possible size\text{Number of tiles} = \frac{\text{Area of rectangle}}{\text{Area of square tile of maximum possible size}}
Find H.C.F of length and breadth to get the side of the largest square tile.
Solution:
HCF of 1872 and 1320 = 24 cm
Area of rectangle = 1872 × 1320 = 2471040 cm²
Area of one tile = 24 × 24 = 576 cm²
Number of tiles = 2471040576=4290\frac{2471040}{576} = 4290
The least possible number of square tiles required is 4290.
