Question

A person is given 10 rupees for shooting at a target and if he misses, then he has to give 10 rupees. If he gets 300 rupees for 100 chances, then how many chances did he miss?

A.

35

B.

45

C.

55

D.

25

Correct option is A

Total chances = 100
Suppose, that the chances he misses = x
Thus, the chances he hits = (100 - x)
Now, total money he gets is 300. Chances need to hit on target to earn Rs. 300,
30010\frac{300}{ 10} = 30
Hence, the price and penalty is same. So, the difference of hits chances and missed chances will be 30 (remaining chances). Thus,
(100 - x) - x = 30
100 - x - x = 30
-2x = 30 - 100
-2x = -70
x = 35
