Question

A man goes from his house to a vegetable market at the speed of 15 km/h and walked back at the speed of 10 km/h. If the whole journey took 2 hours 30 minutes, find the distance from his house to the vegetable market (in km).

A.

15

B.

20

C.

12

D.

18

Correct option is A

Given: Going speed of 15 km/h and Coming speed of 10 km/h.

Total time = 2 hours 30 minutes.

Formula Used: Distance = Speed ×Time

Solution:

Let the distance be x km.

Time to market = x / 15

Time back home = x / 10

Total time = x/15 + x/10 = 2.5 hours

=>2x30+3x30=2.5 =>5x30=2.5>ˉx=2.5×6=15km=> \frac{2x}{30} + \frac{3x}{30} = 2.5\\\ \\=> \frac{5x}{30} = 2.5\\\=> x = 2.5 ×6 = 15 km
