Question

A cylinder is made by rolling a rectangular paper along its breadth. Find the curved surface area of the cylinder, if the length and breadth of the rectangle are 12 m and 7.48 m, respectively.(Use π=227)(\text{Use } \pi = \frac{22}{7})

A.

98.66 m²

B.

44.88 m²

C.

100.24 m²

D.

89.76 m²

Correct option is D

Given:

Length of rectangle (height of cylinder) = 12 m

Breadth of rectangle (circumference of base) = 7.48 m

Formula Used:

When a rectangle is rolled along its breadth to form a cylinder, the breadth becomes the circumference of the base and the length becomes the height of the cylinder.

Circumference of the base = 2πr

Curved surface area (CSA) of a cylinder = 2πrh

Where r = radius and h = height

Solution:

From Circumference;

2 × 227\frac{22}7 × r = 7.48

 r = 7.48×72×22=52.3644\frac{7.48 × 7} { 2 × 22} = \frac{52.36} { 44} = 1.19 m

CSA of cylinder = 2 × 227\frac{22}7 × 1.19 × 12

447\frac{44}7 × 14.28

= 89.76 m²
