Question

A cyclist takes 13 h to cover certain distance. He travels first half of the distance at a speed of 7 km/h and the second half at a speed of 6 km/h. Find the distance.

A.

84 km

B.

82 km

C.

80 km

D.

86 km

Correct option is A

Given:

A cyclist takes 13 h to cover certain distance.

His speed in first half = 7Km/h

His speed in second half = 6 Km/h

Formula Used:

Time = distance/speed

Solution:

Let total distance = 2x

According to question

Time taken to travel first half + time taken to travel second half = 13 h

x7+x6=13\frac{x}{7}+\frac{x}{6}=13

6x +7x =13×42\times42

x =42km

So total distance = 42×2=84km42\times2 =84 km
