Question

A cuboid has dimensions of length 10 cm, width 5 cm and height 8 cm. A cube with sidelength 5 cm is cut out from one of the faces of the cuboid. What is the remainingvolume of the cuboid?

A.

225 cm3

B.

200 cm3

C.

275 cm3

D.

250 cm3

Correct option is C

Given:

Cuboid dimensions: length =10 cm, width = 5 cm, height = 8 cm

Cube side length cut out = 5 cm

Formula Used:

Volume of cuboid = length × width × height

Volume of cube = (side)3

Remaining volume = Volume of cuboid − Volume of cube removed

Solution:

Volume of cuboid = 10 × 5 × 8 = 400 cm3

Volume of cube = 53 = 125 cm3

Remaining volume of the cuboid = 400 - 125 = 275 cm3
