Question

A conical tent of height 10m and base diameter 48m was erected by a company in a park. Find the curved surface area of the tent (in m2 ).

A.

576π

B.

1248π

C.

1152π

D.

624π

Correct option is D

Given:

Height of the conical tent (h) = 10 m
Base diameter = 48 m => Radius (r) = 48 / 2 = 24 m
Formula Used:

The formula for the curved surface area (CSA) of a cone is:
CSA = π * r * l
where:
r = radius of the base,
l = slant height of the cone.
The slant height is calculated using the Pythagoras theorem:
l = √(r² + h²)

Solution:

Calculate the slant height (l).
Using the Pythagoras theorem:
l=(r2+h2)l = √(r² + h²)
Substitute r = 24 m and h = 10 m:
l=(242+102)=(576+100)=676=26ml = √(24² + 10²) = √(576 + 100) = √676 = 26 m
The curved surface area (CSA).
Using the formula:
CSA = π×r×lπ \times r \times l

π×24×26\pi \times24 \times 26

        = 624π
