Given:

A completes the work in 18 days => 

B completes the work in 22 days => 

They work on alternate days starting with B  

Solution: 

Total work  = LCM of 18 and 22 = 198 

Efficiency of A = 19818=11\frac{198}{18} =11 unit/day 

Efficiency of B = 19822=9\frac{198}{22} = 9 unit/day 

2 days work = ( 9 +11) = 20 unit 

18 days work  = 180 unit 

19 days work = 180 + 9 = 189 unit 

Remaining ( 198 - 189 = 9)  work done by A = 19818911=911\frac{198 - 189 }{11} = \frac{9}{11} days 

Total time = 19  + 911\frac{9}{11}  = 1991119 \frac{9}{11} days ​
