Question

A birthday cap is in the form of a right circular cone of base radius 6 cm and height 8cm. Find the area of the paper sheet required to make 15 such caps.( Consider π = 3.14)

A.

2286 sq cm

B.

2682 sq cm

C.

2826 sq cm

D.

2862 sq cm

Correct option is C

Given:

Radius of the base of the cone = 6 cm

Height of the cone = 8 cm

Number of caps = 15

Formula Used:

Surface Area of Cone = πrl

where r is the radius of the base and l is the slant height of the cone.

Where l = r2+h2\sqrt{r^2 + h^2}

Solution:

Now,

l=62+82=36+64=100=10 cml = \sqrt{6^2 + 8^2} = \sqrt{36 + 64} = \sqrt{100} = 10 \, \text{cm}

Surface Area of one cone = π × 6 × 10

= 3.14 × 6 × 10

= 188.4 cm2

Total Area of 15 cap = 188.4 × 15 = 2826 cm2
