Question

A and B can complete a piece of work in 56 and 70 days respectively. They began the work together but A left after some days and B finished the remaining work in 34 days. After how many days did A leave?

A.

16

B.

9

C.

12

D.

15

Correct option is A

Given:

A can finish the work = 56

B can finish the work = 70

Solution:

Total work = LCM of 56 and 70

= 280

Then the efficiency  of A = 280/56= 5 unit/day

Efficiency of B = 280/70 = 4 unit\day

34 work days work which is done by B = 34×\times4 = 136

Remaining work = 280 - 136 = 144

They do this (144 unit) work together = 144/9 = 16

After 16 days A left the work.
