Question

A 500 m long train running at a speed of 100 m/s crosses a tunnel in 10 s. What is the length of the tunnel?

A.

200 m

B.

500m

C.

800 m

D.

1000 m

Correct option is B

Given
Length of train = 500m
Speed = 100 m/s
Time taken to cross the tunnel = 10 sec.
Distance = Speed × Time
Let the length of tunnel be x meter
Then, the total distance = x + 500
According to the question,
x + 500 = 100 × 10
x = 1000 - 500 = 500
