Ladli Laxmi Scheme is being implemented by the government of Madhya Pradesh since 2007 to enhance the economic and educational status of the girls. Ladli Laxmi scheme is a comprehensive scheme that offers financial assistance for a girl from birth until her marriage in installments. Eligibility criteria: The family of the girl child should be a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh. The family should come under below the poverty line (BPL), i.e., should not be an income taxpayer. Maximum of two daughters can be registered under this scheme.

MACN is made up of over 165 member companies that combined represent 50% of global tonnage. 50 percent of all tonnage in the globe, MACN was founded in 2011 and now has over 165 member companies that collectively represent 50% of the world’s tonnage. MACN’s goal is to establish a thriving maritime industry. Sol. Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh has emerged as champion in the 1st Chessable Sunway Formentera Open 2022 chess tournament in Punta Prima. It was a hat-trick of titles for him after he had previously won the La Roda tournament and the Menorca Open in recent weeks. The 15-year-old Gukesh (Elo 2637) settled for a draw with Armenian GM Haik M Martirosyan in the final round to win the title with eight points. Sol. Indian music composer and santoor player Pandit Shivkumar Sharma passed away in Mumbai. He was 84. He had been suffering from kidney-related issues for the last six months and was on dialysis. He passed away due to cardiac arrest. He was born in Jammu in 1938 and is believed to be the first musician to have played Indian classical music on the santoor. Sharma gave santoor, once a little-known instrument from Jammu and Kashmir, a classical status. Awards: Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1986), Padma Shri (1991), and Padma Vibhushan (2001).

Sol. Following a financial emergency, the Prime Minister of Srilanka Mahinda Rajapaksa has resigned. The economic policies of the Sri Lankan government, which included a sudden shift to organic farming, fuelled by the harsh impact of COVID 19 made the Srilankan economy vulnerable. India extended a credit line of 1 bn USD in addition to essential supplies. Srilankan government approached the International Monetary Fund under Rapid Financing Instrument for bail-out assistance of 4 bn USD. Srilanka became a partner to China’s Belt and Road initiative and her borrowings made the situation even worse, so much so that Srilanka had to lease Hambantota port to the Chinese government.

Sol. Switch Mobility, the electric vehicle arm of Ashok Leyland, will invest 1,000 crore in a dedicated EV plant in South India and it is likely to be in the state of Tamil Nadu on the outskirts of Chennai. The plan is to install 30,000 units of e-LCV capacity and 10,000 units of electric buses which will help Ashoka to meet the growing demand for EVs for last mile goods and public transport. Switch Mobility last month committed more than ₹3,000 crore on zero-carbon public and commercial transport and set up a plant in Spain.

Sol. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has named the cyclonic depression over South Andaman Sea as “Asani”. The cyclone is the first one of the year and the name was suggested by Sri Lanka, which means wrath in Sinhala. Cyclones are given names to avoid confusion, facilitating disaster risk awareness, management, and mitigation. There are five regional Tropical Cyclone Warning Centres around the world that issue advisories and name cyclones. The IMD names cyclone which forms over the northern Indian Ocean after reaching a sustained surface wind speed of 62 kmph or more.

Sol. The Assam Government has launched Mission Basundhara 2.0. The purpose is to solve the land issues and provide for quicker mitigation under a governance framework. The Government of Assam had also launched Project Sadhbhawna which is aimed at improving governance in the state.

Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur announced decision for the World’s largest film restoration project The decision has been taken for the World’s largest film restoration project under National Film Heritage Mission. 363 crores have been earmarked for the project. Rs. 597 crore is the total outlay of the National Film Heritage Mission. The restoration project will commence at the National Film Archive of India (NFAI). Under National Film Heritage Mission, nearly 2,200 films will undergo restoration. NFAI carried out the restoration of 10 prestigious films of Satyajit Ray. Sol. Uttar Pradesh government will provide free wi-fi facilities at more than 58 thousand places in the villages of the state. This internet facility will be available for the people within 50 meters of the Gram Sachivalaya (village secretariat) building which is being built in every Gram Panchayat of the state. The process of establishment of village secretariats in 58,189-gram panchayats of the state is going on continuously. The government informed that the Gram Panchayat office was being established in the name of ‘Gram Sachivalaya’.

Sol. Mumbai has received its first biogas-powered electric vehicle charging station near Haji Ali. Spread over 2,000 square feet, it can generate 80 to 110 cubic metres of gas per day and 220 units of electricity per metric tonne of waste. The new charging station was inaugurated by Aaditya Thackeray, Minister for Environment and Tourism, Government of Maharashtra. The charging station has been set up as part of a joint venture by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and AeroCare Clean Energy Limited.

Sol.  The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a series of sanctions against journalist Boria Majumdar for bullying the Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha via text messages. A BCCI Committee has imposed on the journalist a two-year ban. Wriddhiman had shared screenshots of the messages that were sent by a journalist on the social media platform, Twitter. BCCI had taken the cognizance of this incident and had deemed it necessary to investigate and probe the matter to avoid the recurrences of such incidents.

Sol. Manik Saha took oath as the new Chief Minister of Tripura at the Raj Bhawan in Agartala on May 15, 2022. The change is Chief Minister comes a year before the state is scheduled to go to polls. Sol. Chhattisgarh has become the first state in the country to restore the old pension scheme in order to provide assured income to retired employees. The state issued Gazette notification to switch back to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) from National Pension Scheme (NPS) will be effective from April 1, 2022. In February 2022, Rajasthan had also announced restoration of OPS in its 2022-2023 budget the state has not issued a Gazette notification. The state has also sent a detailed proposal to Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) to withdraw ‘17,000 crore accrued under the market-driven National Pension System (NPS) since November 2004.

The 31-year-old now holds a Masters in Epidemiology and has set up a foundation aimed at empowering young girls and mothers. The structure of some houses, a kitchen complex and a 5000-year-old jewellery making factory was discovered, which shows that the site must have been a very important trade centre. Copper and gold jewellery were also found which had been hidden for thousands of years.
