The Ayushman Bharat Diwas is celebrated to achieve twin missions.

They are to promote health and wellness to the poor and also to provide insurance benefits to them.

The day aims to promote affordable medical facilities in remote areas of the country based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census database. It will also promote health and wellness and provide insurance benefits to the poor.

Ayushman Bharat Scheme:

The Scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2018.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Ayushman Bharat Scheme has so far operationalised 75,532 Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centre. It has fixed a target of 1.5 lakh Health and Wellness Centre by 2022.

Sol. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed the ‘Peace, Unity and Development Rally’ at Diphu in Karbi Anglong District on April 29, 2022.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of of Veterinary College (Diphu), Degree College (West Karbi Anglong) and Agricultural College (Kolonga, West Karbi Anglong). These projects, worth more than ₹500 crore, will bring new opportunities for skilling and employment in the region.

Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for more than 2,950 Amrit Sarovar projects. The state will develop these Amrit Sarovars at a cumulative cost of around ₹ 1,150 crore.

Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of seven new cancer hospitals at Dhubri, Nalbari, Goalpara, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Tinsukia and Golaghat to be constructed under phase 2 of the project.

Sol.  Dairy farmers in Gujarat will get a voice, quite literally, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated a community radio station (CRS) — Dudh Vani — dedicated to animal husbandry during his Gujarat tour.

Set up by the Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union or Banas Dairy, the Banas Dairy Community Radio station will connect over five lakh dairy farmers across 1,700 villages in the State.

This is set to become the country’s first community radio station dedicated to the cattle-breeders.

Sol. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Global Patidar Business Summit (GPBS) through video conferencing on April 29, 2022.

The three-day summit is being organised by Sardardham at Surat, Gujarat.

The Global Patidar Business Summit (GPBS) is aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship and value creation among the youth. It is organised once in every two years. The first two summits were held in Gandhinagar in 2018 and 2020.

The Global Patidar Business Summit (GPBS) is being organised under ‘Mission 2026’ to provide an impetus to the socio-economic development of the Patidar community.

The summit will be organised from April 29 to May 1, 2022, comprising over 950 stalls.

There will be more than 30,000 products on display and over 12 different business sectors.

Sol.  The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Engineering Marvel Atal Tunnel built in Rohtang of Himachal Pradesh received Indian Building Congress (IBC) ‘Best Infrastructure Project’ award on April 28, 2022 in New Delhi.

During a historic event on February 9, 2022, the 02 km long, strategically crucial Atal Tunnel, which runs beneath the ‘Rohtang Pass’ on the Manali – Leh Highway, was officially certified by the World Book of Records as the ‘World’s Longest Highway Tunnel over 10,000 Feet.’

The tunnel shortens the road route between Manali and Leh by 46 kilometers and the travel duration by 4 to 5 hours. The Atal Tunnel was built to handle 3000 cars and 1500 trucks each day at an estimated speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

Sol.  Kolkata Knight Riders’ Sunil Narine has become the first overseas spinner in the history of the Indian Premier League to reach the 150-wicket milestone.

The star-allrounder reached the milestone when he picked up the wicket of Lalit Yadav in the match against Delhi Capitals (DC).

Overall, he is ranked 8th in the list of bowlers who have taken 150 or more wickets in the IPL.

Sol.  IndiGo became the first airline in the country to land aircraft using the indigenous navigation system GAGAN.

The flight was conducted using an ATR-72 aircraft and landed at the Kishangarh airport in Rajasthan, using GPS-aided geo-augmented navigation (GAGAN), which has been jointly developed by the Centre-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Sol.   The World Bank has approved a USD 47 million financial support to the Government of India for the Mission Karmayogi, a national program to build civil service capacity.

Mission Karmayogi was launched by Union Cabinet on 2nd September 2020.

Sol.  Agra, Uttar Pradesh has become the first city in India to have vacuum-based sewers. These vacuums will be used in public places.

The corporation has connected vacuums to 240 such houses near the Taj Mahal where conventional sewer systems cannot be used.

The estimated cost for the work of sewer connection is Rs 100 crore. Presently, this technology is being used in low-lying areas. The Maintenance and complete care will be done by the Netherlands company for up to five years.

Sol.  Samba district of Jammu division has become the first district in India to cover 100% of households under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPMJAY)- SEHAT scheme.

Samba district has a total of 62,641 families with 3,04,510 people eligible for ABPM-JAY SEHAT golden cards. This scheme is the world’s largest health insurance scheme, fully financed by Government.

Under this scheme, the people with Ayushman Bharat Golden Card get free treatment up to 5 lakh in all government and empanelled private hospitals across India.

Sol.  Russia has withdrawn itself from United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) ahead of a vote to suspend Russia’s membership over its invasion of Ukraine.

The UNWTO had announced earlier in March 2022 that it wanted to suspend Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

As per the UN body, the Russia-Ukraine conflict will delay the global tourism sector’s uneven recovery from the impact of the COVID pandemic

Sol. Tata-owned Air India has proposed to acquire AirAsia India, a low-cost Indian airline which is partly owned by the Tata Group.

Tata Sons currently hold an 67 percent stake in AirAsia India, while the remaining 16.33 percent stake is owned by AirAsia Investment Ltd (AAIL), which is part of Malaysia’s AirAsia Group.

The Tata Group took over both Air India and Air India express after it emerged as the winning bidder in October 2021. The Tata Group had offered a bid of Rs 18000 crore, including a cash payment of Rs 2700 crore and taking over its debt worth Rs 15,300 crore.

Sol.  The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Norway’s multinational energy company Equinor ASA.

The agreement was signed on April 26, 2022 in New Delhi for collaboration and partnership in areas of upstream Exploration & Production, midstream, downstream and Clean energy options.

Equinor is the leading operator on the Norwegian continental shelf, present in around 30 countries worldwide.

Sol. Himachal Pradesh government has signed an MoU for the development of seven ropeway projects in Kangra, Kullu, Chamba, Sirmour and Bilaspur districts.

The MoU was signed between Ropeways and Rapid Transport System Development Corporation (RTDC) HP Limited and National Highways Logistic Management Limited (NHLML).

The MoU was signed in the presence of road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari and chief minister Jai Ram Thakur in New Delhi.

Sol. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the construction of the 540-Megawatt Kwar Hydro Electric project located on river Chenab in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The committee was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project will be implemented by Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited which is a joint venture company between NHPC and JKSPDC.

The committee has approved an investment of over 4,526.12 crore rupees for this project.

The US military spending reached USD 801 billion in 2021, which shows a drop of 1.4 percent in comparison to 2020. The United States has increased funding for military research and development by 24 percent and reduced spending on the purchase of arms by 6.4 percent between 2012 and 2021.

Sol. India’s Neeraj Chopra missed out on the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year 2022 Award, which went to British Tennis sensation Emma Raducanu, who became the first qualifier in tennis history to win a Grand Slam.

The Indian Javelin star Neeraj Chopra was nominated for the award alongside major sporting names including Tennis player Daniil Medvedev and Spanish Footballer Pedri.

Sol. Max Verstappen, the 2021 Formula One World champion, was voted as the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year 2022 at the 2022 Laureus World Sports Awards virtual event that was screened live from Seville, Spain, on April 24, 2022.

Max Verstappen took the top honour, beating the likes of Tennis legend Novak Djokovic, Footballer Robert Lewandowski, American football star Tom Brady, American swimming star Caeleb Dressel and Kenyan athlete Eluid Kipchoge.

Max Verstappen had secured his first World Championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December, becoming the first Dutch driver to win the World Championship.

Sol. Formula One champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull-Netherlands) won the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.

It was Verstappen’s second win this season after Saudi Arabia, which has also included two retirements, and the 22nd of his career.

Sol. World No. 1 Novak Djokovic was defeated by Andrey Rublev to capture his third tour-level title of the season on April 24, as the Russian completed his Serbia Open Debut in Style.

In a hard-fought clash, Rublev dug deep against Djokovic as he hit with relentless power and intensity.

Andrey Rublev is now equaled Spaniard Rafale Nadal for the most tour-level titles in 2022 as he also clinched crowns in Dubai and Marseille.

Novak Djokovic was competing in his third event of the season as he aimed to win his maiden title of the year.

Sol. KL Rahul on April 24 equalled Rohit Sharma’s record for scoring the most centuries by the Indian Cricketer in T20 Cricket.

Rahul achieved this feat in match 37 of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2022 between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians.

KL Rahul now has 6 centuries in T20 cricket, same as the Indian Captain and his Mumbai Indian counterpart Rohit Sharma.

S39. Ans. (3) Ravi Kumar Dahiya

Sol. Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya clinched the gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2022 in Ulaanbaatar on April 23, 2022.

This is Ravi Kumar Dahiya’s third straight Asian Championships title.

He registered a comprehensive 12-2 win by technical superiority over Kazakhstan’s Rakhat Kalzhan in the 57kg men’s freestyle final.

Dahiya had reached the final after beating Mongolia’s Zanabazar Zanadanbud in the semifinals.

Sol. Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will host 21st World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) for the first time in 118 years.

About 6000 top accountants from 130 countries will participate in the programme physically. The event will be held from November 18 to 21 after outbidding France.

The event will be held at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The theme for 2022 would be `Building Trust Enabling Sustainability’.

Sol. The National Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (NMDC) has been conferred the Public Relations Awards 2022 by the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI).

Sol. Kishore Das setup Bidyanando in 2013 with just 22 students. It now runs five primary schools which provide free education as well as academic coaching sessions and scholarship programmes to help children continue into higher education.

Kishore has also started a meal programme, ‘Ek takay aahar’ (Meal for one Taka), which has provided more than 10,000 nutritious meals for vulnerable people, particularly children and those who are homeless. Commonwealth Point of Light Awards recognise outstanding individual volunteers who are making a change in their community.

The founder of educational charity ‘Bidyanando’ Kishore Kumar Das from Bangladesh has been chosen for the Commonwealth Points of Light Award for his exceptional work in improving access to education for children from marginalised backgrounds.

Sol. The 15-year-old GM scored six points from seven rounds to clinch first place and earned 1,600 Euros as prize money. Gukesh defeated fellow Indian B Adhiban in the seventh and final round to cap an impressive performance during which he remained undefeated.

Indian players dominated, taking seven spots in the top 10 with Aryan Chopra finishing runner-up. India’s Aryan Chopra finished second with 5.5 points while Armenia’s Shant Sargsyan took the third place.

Indian GM S P Sethuraman took the fifth place, with 5.5 points. Countrymen Raunak Sadhwani, Nihal Sarin, the fast-rising Arjun Erigaisi and Adhiban finished seventh to 10th respectively.Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh won the Menorca Open chess tournament, his second title win in as many weeks. Sol. Eminent writer of Odisha and Padma shri awardee (2020) Binapani Mohanty has passed away.

She was born in Berhampur, started her teaching career as a lecturer in Economy in 1960.

Her collection of short stories ‘Pata Dei’ has won Sahitya Akademi award. She also received Sarala Samman from the Government of Odisha.

Sol. National Thermal Power Corporation has come together with Delhi Jal Board to utilize the sludge produced in the sewage treatment plants of DJB to convert it into green energy.

This green technological solution is an innovative way to convert STP sludge into energy via environment-friendly means to reduce CO2 emissions.

In Delhi NCR alone, STPs produce up to 800 Metric Tonnes of sludge per day.

NTPC is taking various steps to make its energy portfolio greener and plans to have 60 GigaWatt capacity through Renewable Energy sources by 2032.

Sol. The Indian Coast Guard Ship (Auxiliary Barge) named Urja Pravaha has been inducted into the Indian Coast Guard at Gujarat’s Bharuch.

In order to augment the patrollong capacity of the Indian Coast Guard, an auxiliary barge ship named URJA PRAVAH has been inducted. It will be deployed along with the Kerala Coast guard Dist 4 zone. It will help explore the Exclusive Economic Zone across the eastern coast and Lakshadweep as well.

Urja Pravah is a 36 m longship that is capable of carrying aviation fuel, water, and cargo ship fuel for emergency assistance.

It would add feathers to the capacity expansion of the Indian coast guard in maritime waters.

Sol. Expert panel of Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has recommended granting emergency use authorisation for “Corbevax” for children in 5 to 12 years age group.

Developed by Hyderabad-based firm Biological-E, Corbevax is India’s first indigenously developed RBD protein sub-unit vaccine against Covid-19.

At present, Corbevax is being given to children between 12 and 14 years.

Covexin is being given to children in the age group of 15-18 years.
