CDS 1 Exam 2026: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfil the eligibility conditions related to nationality, educational qualification, age, gender, and marital status. The complete details of the criteria are given in the table below:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intent to settle permanently, or
  • A person of Indian origin who migrated from the approved countries to permanently settle in India.
Educational Qualification
  • IMA & OTA- Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university.
  • Indian Naval Academy- Engineering degree from a recognised university/institution.

Air Force Academy-

  • Graduation with Physics & Mathematics at 10+2 level, or
  • A Bachelor of Engineering degree.
Age Limit
  • IMA-Unmarried male candidates born between 2nd January 2002 and 1st January 2007.
  • INA-Same date range as IMA, unmarried males only.
  • Air Force Academy-Age between 20 to 24 years (born between 2nd January 2002 and 1st January 2006).
Gender & Marital Status
  • IMA & INA : Only unmarried males.
  • AFA : Both married and unmarried males can apply (but marriage during training is not allowed).
  • OTA : Unmarried males and females.
CDS Physical Standards Applicants must satisfy the prescribed physical requirements:

  • Men (Army): 157 cm
  • Navy: 157 cm
  • Air Force: 162.5 cm
  • Women: 152 cm
  • Gorkhas & candidates from hill regions: minimum 152 cm
  • Tribals from Ladakh, Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Minicoy Islands, and outstanding sports persons: 155 cm
  • BMI: Must be below 25

CDS 1 Exam 2026: Selection Process

The selection process for CDS 1 2026 includes multiple stages to ensure that only the most suitable candidates move forward. It begins with a written exam, followed by the SSB interview, document verification, and medical tests. Each stage evaluates academic ability, personality, health, and fitness levels.

The selection procedure consists of four stages:

1. Written Examination

  • Objective-type questions covering English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics (for IMA, INA, AFA).

2. SSB Interview / Personality Test

Conducted in two stages:

  • Stage I: OIR Test & Picture Perception & Description
  • Stage II: Psychology tests, interview, group tasks, and conference

This stage evaluates leadership qualities and officer-like traits.

3. Document Verification

  • Candidates must present original certificates for verification.

4. Medical Examination

  • A thorough physical and mental health assessment is conducted by Armed Forces Medical Services.
