UGC NET Full form, What is UGC NET Full Form?

UGC NET Full form:  UGC NET is a national level eligibility test conducted by the National testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC). University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) Exam is conducted twice a year to determine the eligibility of the candidates for the posts of Lecturer or Assistant Professor. The top most candidates become eligible for the Junior Research Fellow (JRF). The UGC NET Exam December 2020 and June 2021 have been merged to cover up the gap in the academic session due to Covid-19. The UGC NET exam date is yet to be released. The full form of UGC NET is University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test. The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted on behalf of UGC to determine the eligibility of the candidates for the posts of Assistant Professor, Junior Research Fellow or both. The qualified candidates can apply for jobs in various Indian Universities and Colleges.  This national level exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

UGC NET Full Form : About

The UGC NET is conducted for the Humanities subjects (including languages), Forensic Science, Social Science, Computer Science and Application, Environment Science and Electronic Science. The main objective of the UGC NET exam is to ensure minimum standards for aspiring candidates in the teaching profession and research avenue. The test is conducted twice a year in June and December. Due to Covid-19, the UGC NET Exam December 2020 was postponed. To regularise the NET exam cycle, UGC has decided to merge the December 2020 and June 2021 exams. The tentative dates for UGC NET  exams to be held are 20th November 2021 – 5th December 2021.

The candidates interested in research work can opt for JRF. Once the candidates qualify for the JRF, they can pursue their research studies with various allowances that come with a JRF certificate.

Eligibility Criteria of UGC NET

The candidates appearing for the UGC NET need to check the minimum eligibility criteria before they apply for the same exam.

General Secured at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent
SC/ST/OBC Equivalent in education domains mentioned for general category
Ph.D. Degree holders 5% marks relaxation is provided for candidates who have completed the PG program before September 19, 1991

Age limit

The minimum age limit for the UGC NET for the general category candidates is 31 years. For the reserved categories the age limit to apply is 36 years.

Validity

The validity of the UGC NET certification is valid for a lifetime. There is no restriction for the candidates who qualify for the UGC NET certification to apply for the post of Assistant Professor. However, the UGC NET JRF certificate is valid for  3 years from the date of issue. The candidates who qualify for the UGC NET JRF have to get admitted to a PhD course under a recognised University within 3 years to get the stipend and other facilities under JRF.

UGC NET Exam Pattern

The UGC NET examination consists of two papers – Paper-1 and Paper-2. The UGC NET Paper I consists of 50 questions each carrying 2 marks. The total marks in Paper-I is 100 marks and there is no negative marking. The UGC NET Paper-II con 100 questions each carrying 2 marks. The Total marks in Paper-II is 200 marks and there is no negative marking. Check out the following table to know more.
