Solutions

S1. Ans. (c)

Sol. The correct answer is option c.

Eye-wash – It is an idiomatic expression which means, ‘A deception.’

Option (c) portrays the same meaning as that of the given idiom & hence it is the correct

choice.

S2. Ans (b)

Sol. The correct answer is option b.

The given sentence is of ‘active voice’.

The sentence is said to be in active voice when `Subject’ is active & does something.

Passive voice – If the sentence is in passive form, the subject remains inactive. It does

nothing, but allows something to be done.

Now we have to convert it into passive voice.

Structure in active voice – Is/am/are+ subject+v1+ing + object+?

Structure in passive voice – Is/am/are + Object+ V3+ by subject +?

The sentence thus formed is – Am I being blamed for mining your business?

S3. Ans (b)

Sol. The correct answer is option b.

The word that can be filled in the blank is, ‘enough.’

In the given sentence, ‘Spacious’ is an ‘adjective’ and to qualify that we need an adverb ‘Enough’.

The adverb enough is used to modify an adjective. In this case, it goes after the adjective it modifies.

For example – She is old enough to earn a living.

As per the context of the passage the word `enough’ fits in properly & hence it is

the correct choice.

S4. Ans (c)

Sol. The correct answer is option c.

Usage of article ‘The’ before ‘dress’ is incorrect. We use the definite article ‘The’ to refer to specific or particular nouns.

Only (adjective) – It is used to show that there is a single one or very few of something, or that there are no others.

For example        – I was the only person on the train.

The correct sentence thus formed – This is the only decent dress that I have.

S5. Ans (d)

Sol. The correct answer is option d.

The proper sequence is – DBAC

S6. Ans (b)

Sol. The correct answer is option b.

Replace, ‘different than’ with ‘different from’ to make the sentence grammatically correct.

Different from – It is an adjective phrase that is used to contrast two things.

For example   – The basketball player’s defensive approach was different from that of his opponent.

Different than   – It is another adjective phrase that is sometimes used to contrast two things.

For example      – Hari realized that his answer was different than Ramesh’s answer.

Different than   – It should follow a comparative adjective.

S7. Ans (d)

Sol. The correct answer is option d.

The given sentence is grammatically and contextually correct.

The given sentence is of the ‘Question tag.’

A question tag is a special construction in English. It is a statement followed by a mini-question. We use a question tag to ask for confirmation. Usually if the main clause is positive, the question tag is negative, and if the main clause is negative, it’s positive.

For example: It’s cold (positive), isn’t it (negative)? And: It isn’t cold (negative), is it (positive)? If the main clause has an auxiliary verb in it, we use the same verb in the question tag.

S8. Ans (b)

Sol. The correct answer is option b.

Replace, ‘much more happier’ with ‘much happier’ to make the sentence grammatically correct.

‘More happier’ is a double comparative. The rule is that when we have an adjective that ends in “Y”, we need to drop the “Y” and add “IER” to make the comparative form.

For example – easier, busier, prettier, lazier,

Also, ‘much’ is used if the noun is uncountable. Happiness is an abstract noun. This makes the option (b) the correct choice.

S9. Ans (d)

Sol. The correct answer is option d.

The proper sequence is – DCBA

S10. Ans (a)

Sol. The correct answer is option a.

Astonishment – a feeling of great surprise and wonder.

Synonyms – admiration, amazement, awe, wonder, wonderment

Antonyms – disinterest, incuriosity, indifference, unconcern
