The Stone Angel is a novel by Canadian writer Margaret Laurence. It was first published in 1964 by McClelland and Stewart, and is perhaps the best-known of Laurence's series of five novels set in the fictitious town of Manawaka, Manitoba. The novel tells the story of Hagar Shipley, a 90-year-old woman who reflects on her life and regrets the choices she has made. The novel is written in the first person, and is narrated by Hagar. The Stone Angel has been praised for its strong characterization, its vivid depiction of life on the Canadian prairies, and its exploration of themes such as aging, regret, and redemption. It has been adapted into a film and a television miniseries. Margaret Laurence was born in Neepawa, Manitoba, Canada, in 1926. She was the youngest of four children. Her father was a Scottish immigrant, and her mother was a Canadian of English descent. Laurence studied English at the University of Manitoba, and then worked as a journalist and teacher. She published her first novel, This Side Jordan, in 1960. She went on to write five more novels, including The Stone Angel, The Fire Dwellers, and The Diviners.
All three novels were written by Canadian author Margaret Atwood.
 The Edible Woman (1969): A novel about a young woman who is engaged to be married. Marian begins to feel increasingly alienated from her surroundings, and she starts to see food as a symbol of her own oppression. The novel is a feminist allegory about the pressures that women face to conform to traditional gender roles.
 Surfacing (1972): A novel about a young woman who goes on a journey into the wilderness to find herself. The novel explores themes of identity, self-discovery, and the relationship between women and nature.
 The Handmaid's Tale (1985): A dystopian novel about a totalitarian society where women are forced to be handmaids, or surrogate mothers. The novel is a powerful exploration of themes such as gender, power, and resistance.
Atwood is a celebrated author who has written over 50 books of fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. She is known for her feminist writing and her exploration of social and political themes. She has won numerous awards for her work, including the Booker Prize, the Governor General's Award, and the PEN/Nabokov Award.
