Harisena was a 4th-century Sanskrit poet, panegyrist, and government minister. He was an important figure in the court of the Gupta emperor, Samudragupta. 
The court poet of Harshavardhana was Banabhatta. Banabhatta's most famous work is the Harshacharita, a biography of Emperor Harshavardhana. In addition to the Harshacharita, Banabhatta also wrote Kadambari, a romantic novel.
