Question

What is the single discount equivalent to the successive discounts of 20%,35%, and 10% ?

A.

42.3%

B.

53.2%

C.

48.7%

D.

65.4%

Correct option is B

Given:

Successive discounts of 20%, 35%, and 10%.

Concept and Formula Used:

Formula for net effective percentage;

= x±y±(x×y)/100

Where, x and y be the percentage, for increase we take +ve sign

For decrease, we use -ve sign.

Solution:

As per the question;

Single discount of 20% and 10% = -20-10+200/100 = -28

Single discount of 28% and 35% = -28-35+28×35/100 = -53.2%

So, single discount = -53.2%
