Question

Two successive percentage decreases of 25% each is by what percentage less than two successive percentage increases of 25% each? (Round to two decimal places.)

A.

50%

B.

43.75%

C.

22.22%

D.

56.25%

Correct option is C

Given:
Two successive percentage decreases of 25%
Two successive percentage increases of 25%
Formula Used:
The formula for successive percentage change:
Net Percentage Change = x±y±x×y100x \pm y \pm \frac{x \times y}{100}
Solution:
Successive 25% increase:
Net Change = 25+25+25×25100=56.25%25 + 25 + \frac{25 \times 25}{100} = 56.25\%
Successive 25% decrease:
Net Change = 25+25+(25)×(25)100=43.75%-25 + -25 + \frac{(-25) \times (-25)}{100} = -43.75\%
(-ve) sign indicates decrease.
Now,
Difference = 56.25 – 43.75 = 12.50
Percentage %   = 12.5056.25×100=22.22% \frac{12.50}{56.25}\times 100 = \bf 22.22\%
