Given:

The sum of two consecutive even numbers is 842 

Solution: 

Let Frist Even Number = x 

Second Even Number = x+ 2 

So, As per the questions;

x + (x + 2) = 842

x + x + 2 = 842

2x = 842 - 2

 2x = 840

 x = 420 

Thus, the smaller number is 420.
