    Question

The sum of five numbers is 655. The average of the first two numbers is 75 and the third number is 112. Find the average of the remaining two numbers?

    A.

    197.5

    B.

    188

    C.

    196.5

    D.

    187

    Correct option is C

    Given:

The sum of five numbers is 655.
The average of the first two numbers is 75.
    The third number is 112
    Concept Used:
Sum of the first two numbers = Average × 2
Sum of the remaining two numbers = Total sum - Sum of the first three numbers
Average of the remaining two numbers = Sum of the remaining two numbers / 2
    Solution:
    Sum of first two numbers = 75 × 2 = 150
    Sum of first three numbers = 150 + 112 = 262
    Sum of remaining two numbers = 655 - 262 = 393
Average of the remaining two numbers:
    Average = 3932\frac{393} 2 = 196.5
Thus, the average of the remaining two numbers is 196.5
