Question

The side of a square is 48 cm. The length and breadth of a rectangle are 1 ½ and ⅔ respectively of the side of the square. The difference in their perimeters (in cm) is

A.

10

B.

12

C.

14

D.

16

Correct option is D

Given:
Side of the square (a) = 48 cm
Length of the rectangle (l) = 1.5a = 1.5(48) = 72 cm
Breadth of the rectangle (b) = 2/3a = 2/3(48) = 32 cm
Solution:
Perimeter of the square = 4a = 4(48) = 192 cm
Perimeter of the rectangle = 2(l + b) = 2(72 + 32) = 208 cm
Difference in perimeters = Perimeter of the rectangle - Perimeter of the square = 208 - 192 = 16 cm
Therefore, the difference in their perimeters is 16 cm. The answer is (d) 16.
