Question

The ratio of P, Q and R is 3:5: 8 respectively. If their sum is 400, then what is the difference between P and R?

A.

50

B.

125

C.

100

D.

75

Correct option is B

Given:
Ratios of P:Q:R = 3:5:8
Sum of P, Q, R = 400
Formula Used:
Value of each part = TotalSum of Ratios\frac{\text{Total}}{\text{Sum of Ratios}}
Difference = R - P
Solution:
Sum of Ratios = 3 + 5 + 8 = 16
Value of each part = 40016=25\frac{400}{16} = 25
P = 3×25=753 \times 25 = 75
R = 8×25=2008 \times 25 = 200
Difference = 200 - 75 = 125
Therefore, the difference between P and R is 125.
