Question

The perimeters of two squares differ by 48 cm. If the side of one square is four times the side of the other square. then find the area of the larger square(in cm2^2).

A.

256

B.

289

C.

196

D.

225

Correct option is A

Given:

- Let the side of the smaller square = x cm

- Side of larger square = 4x cm

- Difference of perimeters = 48 cm

Formula Used:

- Perimeter of square = 4 × side

- Area of square = side²

Solution:

Perimeter of smaller square = 4x

Perimeter of larger square = 4 × 4x = 16x

Difference of perimeters: 16x - 4x = 48

12x = 48

x = 48 / 12 = 4 cm

Area of larger square = (4x)² = (4 × 4)² = 16² = 256 cm²

The area of the larger square is 256 cm².
