The percentage of boys and girls liking four different fruits are shown in the following graph. Study the graph and answer the question.

The respective ratio of the number of boys to the number of girls is 2 : 3. If the total number of boys and girls together is 11,500, then total how many boys and how many girls like peaches?

Girls: 19%

Ratio of boys to girls: 2 : 3

Total number of boys and girls together: 11,500

Solution :

Let the number of boys be 2x and the number of girls be 3x

2x + 3x = 11,500 

5x = 11500

x = 2300

Number of boys = 2x = 2 × 2300 = 4600

Boys liking peaches = 19% of 4,600

= 0.19 × 4600 = 874 

Number of girls = 3x = 3 × 2300 = 6900

Girls liking peaches = 19% of 6900 = 0.19 × 6900 = 1311

The correct answer is option ( c) 874 boys and 1311 girls​
