Question

The median of 9, 11, 15, 17. x. 19, 21 is x. where x is an integer. Which of the following can be the value of x?

A.

14

B.

18

C.

16

D.

13

Correct option is C

Given:

Median of 7 number is x

Formula used:

Median of odd number = (n+1)2\frac{(n + 1)} 2

Solution:

Numbers are;

=> 9, 11 , 15, 17, x, 19, 21

Total number are = 7

=> Median = (7+1)2\frac{(7 + 1)} 2 = 82\frac8 2 = 4th term

So median will be 4th term;

On rearranging the terms, we get;

=> Series = 9, 11, 15, x, 17, 19, 21

As we arrange it in ascending order

=> 15 < x < 17

So, only possible value of x is 16

=> Hence, the answer is (c).
