    Question

The mean proportional between he number p and q is 8. Which of the following pairs of numbers can be the value of p and q?

    A.

    12 and 3

    B.

    16 and 4

    C.

    12 and 16

    D.

    10 and 6

    Correct option is B

    Given:

The mean proportion between the numbers p and q between the numbers p and q is 8

    Formula Used:

    Mean Proportional = pq\sqrt pq

    Solution:

    Mean Proportional = 8

    pq = 64

We need to find which pair of numbers satisfies this equation

    Option(a)

    (12, 3 ) = 12×3=3612\times 3 = 36

    Option(b)

    (16,4) = 16×4=6416\times 4 = 64

    option (c)

    (12, 16)

    12×16=19212\times 16 = 192

    Option (d)

    (10,6) = 10×6=6010\times 6 = 60

    Hence option (b) is correct
